Target Field

September 22, 2011

been to a few Twins games this year, and I’m still in the “honeymoon” phase of having this new stadium. despite a lackluster season, fans are still coming out in droves and the Twins have had over three million people come to the stadium two seasons in a row. now, as the season wraps up, the tickets come cheaper and the seats get better, but it does get colder too.

as anyone reads this probably knows, Minnesota’s state fair is widely regarded as the best state fair in the country. huge fair grounds, alligator on a stick & Sweet Martha’s cookies are all to blame for that title. hearsay is that Sweet Martha’s makes over $2.5 million in the twelve days of the fair. so many freaking cookies. i also heard that this past Saturday there were 125,000 in attendance. that’s a lot of people.

spent a little bit of time there today, spent too much money and saw a rodeo.

Tom

September 2, 2011

Tom is a good friend and fellow photographer. through a random series of events a couple of days ago, we ended up spending the day together and went to downtown St. Paul to scout locations for a shoot he had the next day.

it’s the time of year where the weather is getting a tad chilly, and that’s the best in my opinion. being able to walk downtown without sweating/squinting or wearing a winter coat is phenomenal. gotta enjoy it before things get ugly for another five months.

you can view Tom’s work here.

got the opportunity to shoot something that’s a little bit different for me – football.

the two teams at hand were the Granite City Renegades and the Minnesota Sting. it ended up being a great game, and unfortunately for both teams ended up in a tie at 7-7.

it was a good time and something completely different than what i’m used to. you don’t really run much of a risk of being ran over by a large group of people while photographing a wedding. well, not any wedding that i’ve been too at least.

earlier today i cruised out to what is one of my favorite cities in Minnesota, Stillwater. It was really rainy and that put a bit of a damper on the day, but still got a chance to run around to take some photos, check out a couple of antique shops, and eat at Leo’s. such little trips are really great.

there’s a lot of flooding happening in this area, but the river’s level has actually dropped. earlier this year they had to close the bridge that crosses from Minnesota into Wisconsin because of the flood levels. that must have been bad news for those who make the cross-state commute.

the good & the bad

April 27, 2011

minneapolis. been living here a few months, and i love it more than ever.

it’s got it’s upsides and it’s downsides. the portion of the city that i’m inhabiting is somewhere between the two. never really felt threatened by anything yet (knock on wood,) but my mind is always ready for anything.

we don’t live too far from some of the more intense parts of town. five minutes or so of driving from my place will land you in some shady areas.

anywho, i took a quick little drive down to a shadier part of town (one of the toughest neighborhoods in the city) and took a couple images. when i say a couple, i really mean a couple. i plan on heading back to this area and walking around and shooting a bit. hopefully i don’t get shot back at. get it?

this life

April 6, 2011

meet the rimbey brothers. if you’ve been to my blog before, you’ve more than likely seen one of these dudes around. they haven’t released any music yet but wanted to get a head start on their image. sounds like i’ll be doing my first video project for these guys soon too. hopefully i don’t pull out every last bit of hair on my head when it comes to the editing process. gotta learn somehow right?

i had them play on of their songs acoustically (they’re working as a full band and are currently seeking members,) and i can’t wait to hear them full band, it sounded pretty intense. check them out when they’ve begun releasing music, check out the photos, and check out ben’s ever evolving hair cut.

red wing

April 6, 2011

i’m in the middle of a beautiful five day off streak right now. it’s been a beautiful few days and tomorrow i will wrap it up all by sleeping and cleaning my apartment.

in the past few days i’ve gone to Red Wing, MN with my good friend/roomie philip grey, bought a huge bookcase from ikea, did a shoot for a new group of musicians called ‘this life’, and ran around shooting yesterday.

Red Wing was a super relaxing experience. the first day i can remember not being stressed out about one thing or another in a really freaking long time. we ate breakfast at a local restaurant and hiked up a bluff. yep, i said hiked.

and here’s some film from the trip

here’s to a super relaxing little trip. hard to believe that minnesota has such a variety, especially in such a close proximity. Red Wing is about an hour away from my apartment.

porky’s

April 6, 2011

porky’s is an iconic minnesotan restaurant that opened it’s doors in 1953. recently, the light rail system in minnesota has decided to expand and place one of it’s trains directly in front of Porky’s. it’s a drive in restaurant. the owner recognized that with a train running directly in front of it, there’s basically no hope for a drive in shop, and this past sunday was the final day that Porky’s was open. they are now auctioning off parts of the restaurant and some groups are working to conserve portions of it (signs and whatnot) for the sake of Minnesotan history.

as i was shooting these photos an older woman came up and was snapping a few as well. i told her that i thought it was crazy that we were going to be the only people with these photographs. she wasn’t as astounded as i was.

unfortunately i never had the chance to eat here. i hear there are rumors of a new location though, so i’ll hope for that.
